"The Wood Art" Museum

It encompasses pieces that illustrate the utilitarian and decorative use of wood in the mountainous area of Suceava County. In the museum's courtyard, there is a small open-air section featuring wooden houses, gates, and household sets.

In 1935, the Founding Committee of the County Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art was established, and in 1936, the museum was inaugurated. In 1970, the exhibition theme shifted towards the civilization of wood. The museum is housed in a monumental architectural building (constructed in 1900) that was previously used as the county prefecture headquarters.

It includes interior wooden pieces (furniture, tools, and utensils for various occupations and crafts), as well as technical installations (manual and mechanical): oil presses, grape and fruit presses, hammers for beating flax, manual and water mills, water wheels with buckets that harness the power of water for gold mining, along with other complex installations. In the museum's courtyard, there is a small open-air section featuring wooden houses, gates, and household sets.

Rarău Massif

Mount Rarău is known for its spectacular cliffs and incredibly beautiful landscapes.

It is easily accessible from Câmpulung Moldovenesc or Pojorâta via the picturesque Transrarău road. The Lady's Rocks, known as "Pietrele Doamnei" in Romanian, are the most famous tourist attraction in the Rarău Mountains. These rocks have a relief that resembles gigantic ruins, consisting of a complex of limestone towers with ancient corals and ammonites dating back tens of millions of years, with heights ranging from under 10 meters to over 70 meters. The Rarău Peak is renowned for its cliffs and wide-open panoramic views.

The "Moara Dracului" Gorges

Located on the upper course of Valea Caselor stream, the "Moara Dracului" Gorges are the most beautiful and well-preserved gorges in the Rarău area.

Protected as a geological reserve, covering an area of 10 hectares, the "Moara Dracului" Gorges are located 10.5 km away from the center of Câmpulung Moldovenesc. The gorges stretch for a length of 60-70 meters and have an average width of 4-5 meters. The walls rise vertically and occasionally even overhang. In the vicinity of these gorges, several yew species can still be found, relics from the glacial era and representing the golden wood of our forests of the past. Additionally, there are rare plant and animal species such as edelweiss, harebells, hawkweed, lynx, pine marten, fox, and others.

Giumalău is one of the tallest mountains in Bucovina, reaching an elevation of 1857 meters, and it is renowned for its spectacular landscapes.

The peak and the nearby cabin can be reached through multiple well-marked hiking trails. The main topographical feature of the massif is an extensive rocky ridge. The "Iezer" and "Bolătău" Lakes

The Iezer and Bolătău Lakes are among the oldest natural dam lakes in Romania.

Natural dam lakes are formed when a landslide blocks the course of a flowing water stream. Since this is a relatively rapid event, we can determine the age of such lakes in Romania with great accuracy. Regarding Lacul Roșu (Red Lake), the most famous natural dam lake in Romania, it is known to have formed in 1837. The Iezer and Bolătău Lakes, also natural dam lakes, have an even older age. The oldest document attesting to their existence dates back to July 12, 1594, during the time of Aron Vodă. Lake Iezer is developed for tourism and can be easily accessed from the village of Sadova.

The Slătioara Ancient Forest

The Slătioara Ancient Forest is the oldest mixed coniferous and beech forest in Romania and one of the oldest in Europe.

The Slătioara Ancient Forest was designated as a Nature Reserve as early as 1941, enjoying over 75 years of national recognition for the natural treasures it holds. Spruce and fir trees, with their impressive circumferences reminiscent of the distant relative Sequoia, demonstrate extraordinary vitality. Here, spruces with 1-meter diameters and heights of 50 meters are around 300-400 years old. Others, undoubtedly much "older," lie fallen under the weight of years. Beeches and maples also reach significant dimensions and ages that are equally venerable. In 2017, the Slătioara Ancient Forest, along with other ancient forests in Romania and Europe, was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
